The purpose of this blog is to give families useful information and advice with the hopes that it will help someone going through the same thing that I am going through. Fighting for my family’s rights is the toughest battle I’ve fought my whole life and the best weapon that I’ve found to use in this fight is knowledge.

Knowledge is more powerful than the best attorney you can hire. I spent $3,000 on an attorney only for him to send a few emails, make a few calls, and go to 1 hearing and 1 pre-trial conference before he asked me for more money. I wouldn’t give him a penny more, and he refused to do anymore work, so I had to fire him. It was the worst $3,000 I’ve ever spent! That money could have been put to WAY better use, like my son’s college fund.

My advice to anyone who who has to use ALL of their resources to pay for an attorney is to NOT pay for an attorney. An attorney is only useful if you have as much (or more) money to give that attorney as the opposing party has. In that sense, whoever has the most money wins. Let me explain… In my case, I had a limited budget. I had $3,000 to spend on an attorney at the time. It was actually every penny I had. The mother of my son has her rich families pockets to dig into and spent $20,000 on her attorney (so far). They spent several thousands of dollars filing several emergency motions and domestic violence injunctions until something stuck. The attorney advised my son’s mother to file a domestic violence injunction to gain leverage on the family court case. She charged $2500 for this. Also, she filed an emergency motion to modify my timesharing and charged another $3000 for this. All of these motions were on false accusations as well as for the lyrical content of a song I recorded. So far, the judge has given the mother everything she and her attorney has asked for. Meanwhile, my attorney wouldn’t lift a finger for me because my $3,000 deposit was used up and he wanted more money. If I ad the money, I could have paid the attorney to respond and counter petition the mother back for the false accusations. He wouldn’t do it without several thousands more dollars. In hind-site, what I should have done was never hired him and done the research on the laws and the constitution so I could see what the the mother, her attorney, and the judge was doing was illegal then filed an appeal to the judge’s order.

So, the lesson I learned is don’t hire an attorney unless you have as much or more money than the opposing party. Otherwise, you’re wasting your money. Its VERY sad that our judicial system works this way.

You know, some people ask me why start this organization and help others when I need so much help in my own fight? I just think there’s always going to be someone behind me that is about to go through exactly what I just went through. If I can make it easier for that person, then I am doing my job.

Also, I hope one day my son will look at the things I am doing and see that I did it for him. I make sure to leave an extensive “paper trail” of my efforts so he can look back and see this. I am currently in the middle of a very nasty court battle and doing everything I can to be with my son, but if I lose and they let his mother have her way I will never be able to see him. His mother is attempting to go through the court to relocate out of state and gain sole custody. If I lose this battle and they let her take him, my only option is to move as well and take the fight to that state. I will keep filing petitions and fighting until my son is old enough to make the choice for himself. I believe that even if I “lose” the case, my son will see all of my efforts and there will be no doubt in his mind that I love him and he will want to come back to his Daddy.

So, my advice to any fathers out there fighting for their children in court is to KEEP FIGHTING! Even if it seems futile, your children will see it later in life if not right now.
